What is a save the date?

A unique save the date is basically a card or object that you send out to your invited guests before your formal wedding invitations start to arrive at their doorstep. It is usually unique and personalized, with your own photo on let’s say, on a refrigerator magnet. It shows the date of your wedding so that your guests can be prepared before your real invitation.

This way they can also have some time to arrange for accommodation, travel and other work plans, if they have to leave town for a day or two. Guests with uninvited young children will also be able to arrange for caretaking of their kids while they are not around.

How to personalize it?

There are many ways you can choose to personalize it to make it a unique save-the-date, and it all depends on what personalization means for you – the degree of personalization you want your unique save-the-date to have.

There are many templates online where you can choose from. They normally come with predesigned backgrounds and texts, with your own pictures of course. Whether you choose to use a card or a magnet, there will definitely be a wide range of selections available to you. If you think this is personalized enough, give it a thought.

If you decide to want to do your save-the-date from scratch, and have the budget to do so, by all means engage a couture save-the-date designer. If you have a theme or color to represent your wedding, the designer would be able to do designs to cater to your needs. There may be limitations due to printing constraints, but I’m sure experienced staff available at that particular company will be able to help you get around problems that you may face during the conceptualization process.

Keep in mind that it is your wedding, and you should put in your best efforts to personalize it as far as you can, and as much as your budget permits. Try not to make a save-the-date that looks like somebody else’s, but if the thought of having your picture on your unique save-the-date is unique enough to your expectation, then go ahead with it!
